As wedding bloggers, we’ve seen more than our fair share of romantic elopements, from a couple who got hitched in a tiny rowboat on the Thames to a pair of lovers who tied the knot atop a mountain summit in New Zealand. But we’ve never seen anything as soaringly romantic as this one, which took place 1,000 feet off the ground in a hot air balloon adrift over the rustling cornfields of Iowa, with the lovely brides, Chicagoans Carrie and Allison, sealing their vows by exchanging rings crafted out of wood from recycled musical instruments. Forget about the fact that Carrie, Allison, and their adventurous, multitalented photographer, Jennifer Wiley, are all afraid of heights. “An elopement is so stress free, I needed to think of something that would ensure we’d both still be kind of terrified!” said Allison, revealing her wonderfully wry sense of humor.
Prepare to be whisked up, up, and away!
